Assignment #1: Blogging is communication

My dedication to visiting blogs began several years ago. I learn of blogs through following the trails of assorted referrals, links, and searches. According to the blog search engine Technorati at http://technorati.com/ , there were 71 million blogs as of May 2007 (that would be 71 million and 1 as of June 4 when I started mine).

I am, in my face-to-face life, an avid networker, who keeps in touch with people, who connects people, and who can always find a resource for a question or a problem. Blogging, I’ve decided, is the ultimate in networking. As I wander through the blogosphere I began noticing what made me return to a blog. I would revisit blogs if I liked the writing style, sense of humor, graphics, links, and/or content. It was a very personal mix.

I regularly visit blogs of agents, writers, publishers, public relations professionals, artists—this is just as important to me as a writer as reading the Wall Street Journal is to an investment broker.

Register first, (see instructions at the right side of this blog) and then enter a comment in response to this question: What type of communication (intrapersonal, dyadic, etc--see others on pages 6 6o 9 of the textbook) is blogging? Explain why you chose that type.

I believe that blogging is a combination of both dyadic communication and small group communication. There will be two main people reading your blog; yourself and the instructor. Although those are the two people that will for sure read your blog, there is also the opportunity for other bloggers to read it.
The definition of dyadic communication is two people interacting. This would be you and your instructor. That would make this kind of blog dyadic. On the other hand, there is small group communication. The definition of small group communication is that ever person can participate actively with the other members. In this blog that is also the case because everyone is participate and everyone can read others blogs.

I myself believe blogging is also a combinational communication system. There will be myself(the writer and you(the instructor) and even others(students, etc..) to read the blogs that we write. Other students and yourself can write and communicate effectively with what I have written. When there are multiple participants in the blog it becomes a combinational communication system.

Since "Blogging" is a type of public access conversation, it seems to me that it must be catagorized as a form of mass communication. Even though the original audience is intended to be that of a small group communicating it alows the possibility of of infinite outside perspectives, and adversity.

I believe blogging is a combination of dyadic, intrapersonal and mass communication. When you reply to a blog, you are writing your inner thoughts and ideas of the subject. When you send a reply to the original post, you are actually having a texted conversation with whoever posted the blog, so that is dyadic. And even though you reply to just one post, many people have the access to read it, so that is mass communication

I think that blogging is a combination of any one or all of the following communication styles: intrapersonal, dyadic, small group, public, and mass communication. The information you enter on the blog can be for yourself only (intrapersonal); it can be between two people (dyadic); it can include several people (small group); or it can include the entire internet (mass communication). This particular blog, I would consider, more of a small group/public communication style because it involves many individuals, but it is still small enough that everyone can participate.

I think blogging is a combination of small group and mass comm. In our case, our blogs are written for not just the instructor but our classmates too, which is a pretty small group. On the other hand, anyone in the world could potentially read our posts, making it eligible for mass comm. consideration.

I Think that bloging is a good way to communicate in a more "relaxed" way in a written format, usually your thoughts or anything you want to discuss. Blogging is typically meant for others in the public to read. It can communicate with simply yourself or a large group of people all over the world.

I think blogging is useful combination of both types of communication dyadic and small group. I believe that it is a good and different way to interact with people. It is a good way to discuss topics with the instructor and other students.

I believe that blogging is a form of dyadic, small group and mass communication. Not only is the communication between you and your instructor at first, but as the blog gets bigger, the communication form also gets bigger. Blogging can also be intrapersonal communication, because if your blog is not previewed by anyone, it becomes more of a journal for yourself.

I can distinctly remember a conversation I had with and attorney friend of mine last year. She asked me, "What is the blog thing that I hear people talking about?"
At the time, I am sad to admit, I was not sure. I had seen chat rooms, emails, and web sites. I considered myself pretty up to date on the latest marketing and technology trends. Guess not. So, I find it quite funny now.
Now, better educated and informed I can answer confidently that blogging is a great form of communication. Depending on the site and depending on the situation, blogging uses intrapersonal, dyadic, small group, public and mass communication. I would venture to say that blogging could lead to a possible face-to-face, telephone and/or email communications.
In our society today we are all about technology, getting things communicated quickly and using the fastest way for possible to get the quickest response possible. Now that I am educated in the art of blogging, no expert by any means, I can definitely see its value and place in the world of communication.

I think that blogging is a combination of intrapersonal, dyadic, small group and mass communication. It can range from only a few participants to anyone and everyone. I personally have never blogged before, not to say that i won't like it. I'm more of a face-to-face communicater. I like to see how people react as soon as they process the information they've been given. But, like i mentioned before, I'm not saying I won't like it. As for right now, I think I'm going to like this, I think.

Small group communication. Because one person at a time will post his or her comments and soon you will have a small group of people with a lots of comment or comments for other people to read.

I believe communication is a combination of small group, mass communication. I think small group because you are talking to people within your class, and mass communication you aren't only talking within your class its everyone that is a bloger or anyone that is into becoming a bloger and for people that just like to read stuff on the web.

I would have to say blogging is mostly like small group communication. It is by the way a group of people communicate online writting about something that all interests them.

I think it is a combination of dyadic and small group communication. It is dyadic because it can be communication between the writer and the commenter. It also can be small group because everyone who is visiting the blog can communicate.

I believe blogging is a combination of intrapersonal and mass communication. When blogging, I always view it as writing in a journal. You are writing to yourself, in a sense...your thought, feelings, beliefs, etc. This is intrapersonal communication. At the same time, you are not writing in a journal, but in a blog which is open for anyone and everyone to see. This is mass communication. You are telling the world your views, you are sharing your "journal" with anyone who chooses to read it.

sarahstaples said...

I believe that blogging can be considered any type of communication. Even though just about anybody can read a blog, there are some people who use a blog as a journal. It can be also be used as a way for two people to communicate with each other. With our class, for example, it would be considered small group communication. Although it fits all of these categories, it also fits into public and mass communication. Other than that, I believe that blogging mainly fits into mass communication, because it is on the internet. Online anybody can read it, and anybody can reply to it. This is considered mass communication because there are millions of people who hava access to a blog.

When it comes to blogging I think it can be open to many types of communication such as intrapersonal, dyadic, small group and mass communication. So I would have to agree with Amanda when saying it’s a range of people and the way they communicate. Blogging just grows and grows and so many topics can erupt from one little comment. Opinions are thrown around left and right and criticism is a big part of it, when blogging (or any form of communication) you have to learn to roll with the punches.

Writing in a blog begins with the voice in my head. As I write it continues to speak to me and edit what I say. This makes blogging intrapersonal for me. Generally the first person I communicate with in a blog is myself.
Interpersonal communication occurs when each of us reads the blog. We are dyads reading one another’s thoughts and impressions. Our dyads shift in the process of reading and Identifying one another’s thoughts and composing our own entries.
Clearly it is small group communication. Each of us could write a response to each and every entry. We are a small group of one class belonging to a small group of Erica’s Communications classes.
Although our blogging does not in my opinion fit the concept of public communication I believe it is mass communication. Public communication references that all group members cannot contribute. The group of our two classes is contributing and although we are all an audience ,if we desired we could all respond to one another’s’ contributions.
Blogging is mass communication because others can access the blog and it has the potential to be very widespread. People outside our two classes have the ability to access the blog.
In summary, blogging is intrapersonal, dyadic/interpersonal, small group communication, and mass communication.

To me, blogging is quite the combination. It is dyadic communication, small group, and even leading to mass communication. We are using this blog for our class and it is an assignment, but as we discussed in class, future employers or even instructors could view it to find out a little more about us. Our class isn't the only class reading these either. The River Falls class also has easy access to the blog and can look on.
Blogging could also be a form of intrapersonal communication. I know lots of people that use blogs as journal like objects. I even have a blog that I use as a journal now and then. If you are the only person writing the blog entry and then reading it, it is your intrapersonal communication form.
You can also use these as just a way to talk to one friend. Blogs can be programed to be private and you choose the settings for one person.

Personally I believe blogging is a small group communication. I have had a blog before I set up on a space over the interent when I was in high school just for my small group of friends to read. Which is very similar to what we are doing in this class, just reading up on what someone's feelings are about something, how their day went, or whatever else they would like to blog about.
I suppose it could also be considered mass communication, but that all depends on what your small group is. Also using the web as a blog many people can find and read about you, therefore it would also be known as a mass communication because anyone around the world can read and comment on your blog.

I think that blogging is both small group and a much larger thing than any of us can know. Because anyone that can use the internet can access our blog. So I think that is pretty cool and it is weird.

Becky H. said...

Blogging can be several different types of communication. The first type of communication would be small group because everyone has a chance to respond to the blog. A blog could also be mass communication because you are transmitting a message to a large and widespread audience. I also believe a blog is interpersonal communication because you are interacting with two or more people.

I believe blogging is a way to communicate with others. Small groups of people will read the blog and get to know your point-of-view on topics. For instance, this blog is read by the instructor and fellow classmates and they will be able to see my point-of-view and how I feel about certain topics that Erica has posted. In blogging you can write anything you want and not have to worry about being criticized in person. It allows you to open up and write freely.

Ultimately I believe this blog is a representation of small group communication. All participants can actively communicate with each other. If I wanted to reply to a comment posted earlier, I could. And people reading the blog can get together to support an argument or comment. To me this fits the definition of small group communication perfectly.

I think blogging is a good way to communicate to people wherever you are. example facebook kids talk back and forth by a means of blogging writng on walls and seeing whats up with friends and family that are further away. Bloging is also a good way to communicate to masses telling many people at once that something is going on or something had happened instead of calling each and every person its way easier and more efficiate I think.

To me, blogging is a way to use a network to communicate with others. With the development of the internet over the years, communication has become more and more done through the computer. For example, other than my cell phone the way I communicate with my friends is through facebook and myspace by sending messages to each others profiles.

I believe that blogging is a combination of public and mass communications because with it being published online, many people (including other students and total strangers) will be reading the comments and/or blogs. I have blogged before and it is a good way of self-expression.

Blogging is a good way to communicate for the following styles: dyadic, small group, interpersonal, and mass communication. Different people can see a person’s blog and post their comments on the subjects that the blog creator writes on their blog page. Depending on the way the blog creator advertises their blog page determines the amount of feed back they might get on their blog page. The blog creator could write their feels and thoughts about a subject (interpersonal communication) and post it on their page. Then a group (small or mass) could read the blog creators interpersonal thoughts and feeling and make a comment on how they might feel about the subject. This way of communication is a great way but might not work for everyone due to not knowing how to work a computer or the website it self. In this class room setting communicating between us on a blog is a great way for all of us to learn current technology and a new way to communicate.

I also believe that blogging is a form of mass communication. Everyone that looks at the site, reads yur information and has the opportunity to reply to it. This is why I feel that blogging is a form of mass communication.

I believe that blogging can be used in a small group communication, just like this class. It's very handy and it's so easy to used. Also, blogging can be used as a mass communication. you are writing in a blog, open for anyone and everyone to see. This is mass communication.

I believe that blogging is a type of communication that is highly used and very universal. Many people around the world use this type of communication. When you have a lot of people using the same blog it is a combination communication and it can be one or more people using the same blog. It is quiet a new thing and many people are just learning about it and it is a very good source of communication.

I believe that blogging is a form of mass communication because every one can read it. I also believe that you can not put just one label on blogging for it can apply to so many different forms of communication. Just reading what others thought it was proves that it can apply to many different forms of communication.
